Testimony
This post comes from the House Health & Government Operations Committee hearing on the Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Act earlier in the 2011 Legislative Session. Jennifer Chapin spoke to the committee about her experience being transgender and the discrimination she faced almost daily on the job. This discrimination is unfair and unjust and must end.
Please stand with Jennifer in ending discrimination against the transgender community and contact your senator to help pass HB 235 today!
Hi honorable members of the committee - thank you for taking the time to listen to my story today. I want to urge you to support House Bill 235, the Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Act (HB 235). Every person in our state deserves the opportunity to make a life for him or herself free from discrimination. This is necessary because there currently is no federal law to protect people in employment and housing.
This post comes from earlier this month when the House Health & Government Operations committee heard testimony on House Bill 235. The Gender Identity Anti-Discrimination Act will add vital protections to the anti-discrimination law on the basis of gender identity. With only 10 days left in the 2011 legislative session, it's important that you contact Sen. Frosh to stand up as an important leader in the Senate and call on HB 235 to receive equal treatment.
Below, you'll Find Kaden's testimony, a local Marylander who supports HB 235.

My name is James Mayhew, and I am here to testify in support of Maryland House Bill 235, which would provide Maryland residents protection from discrimination based on gender identity in employment, housing and credit.
I am a transgender man, which means that I was born and raised female, but am now living my life full-time as male. But the more important things to know about me are that I am an artist, a college educator, and an arts organizer living in Baltimore, Maryland.
Help support folks like me, who need vital protections offered by HB 235 in housing, employment, and credit today.
